Folger-specific note
From dealer's description: A record of an open-air King Lear in apartheid-era South Africa in a spiral-bound folder of twenty professional photographs showing Alexander Doré's January 1966 production given at the Maynardville open air theatre near Cape Town, a venue renowned for its Shakespearean performances. The photos are laid onto card leaves with sticky strips that hold them in place and removable transparent plastic covers over the images. The plastic covering to the spiral binding has largely disappeared, not affecting the binding in any other way; the plastic guards to the photos are now slightly browned. 'King Lear Marnardville, 1966' in printed black letters on the upper cover. It's not know how many of these folders were issued but they are not located in any institutional collection we can find. Lear in extremis, his daughters - for good and ill - the blinded Gloucester: all are here in a production that cast Johann Nell as Lear.
