From dealer's description: "Manuscript, ink on single sheet of vellum (79.5 x 41cm) initial “F” with calligraphic decoration, the whole document penned in a large English chancery hand, names of masters penned in small seventeenth century hand next to larger chancery script, old folds, light dusting, very good. This large and decorative manuscript notice on vellum lists the “fees due unto the Ma[ste]r of the Rolls & the other Ma[ste]rs in Chancery for their Sum[m]er robes due at Pentecost 1689”. The Court of Chancery overs aw matters of equity in England and Wales, including trusts, land law and the administration of estates. The politician Henry Powle (1630-1692) was appointed Master of the Rolls 13 March 1689 and presented the Bill of Rights to William and Mary, 16 December 1689. The names of the Masters in Chancery, recorded on this sheet in a large chancery hand, include the diplomat John Methuen (1650-1706) and Sir John Hoskins (1634-1705), lawyer, natural philosopher and one of the original members of the Royal Society at its foundation in 1663."
