Folger-specific note
Purchase made possible by The Mary and David S. Wolff Endowment Fund. From dealer's description: "The extremely useful “Who were the nuns?” gives the following details: Barbara Magrath, in religion Barbara Cecilia Caroline. Died: 3 Feb 1733 in Louvain. Augustinians, Louvain choir nun. She professed 22 Jul 1723. Sources: Louvain MS Chronicle: 636. The bookplate is from the eventual home of the nuns at St Monica's who returned to England in the 1790s and somewhat later set up the Abbotskerswell in Newton Abbot. The manuscript was likely carried with them and the 19th century bookplate pasted in later. Barbara Magrath has inscribed the front paste-down and written an index at the rear at the same time. These appear to have been written at the same time as the nib shows evidence of heavy wear resulting in rather blotchy writing. The main texts date from the late 17th century and are written in at least two very neat hands." Ordered from Dean Byass, D9202, 2015-05-10, email quote.
