Summary
Collection of approximately 340 recipes, with a section (p. 108-157) headed "These receipts following were had from a cook who was five years in the King of Franc's kitchen" and closing with the note "Here endeth the French Receipts." The majority of the recipes are written in a calligraphic hand (p. 1-185) and are indexed alphabetically on 12 pages near the end of the manuscript. These recipes include: "Meager Soup" (p. 6), "To Pickle Lobsters" (p. 23), "Scorcht Callops" (p. 40), "Neats Toungues and Udders Alamode" (p. 53), "To make Marrow Pastyes" (p. 66), "To make Barley Gruell" (p. 88), "To make Dutch Wafers" (p. 104), "How to Morenat a Couple of Chickens" (p. 115), "To Mango Melons" (p. 155), "A Patee Royall the Crust without any thing of flour" (p. 127), "To Pickle Herrings the French way" (p. 177), and "How to Coller Eels or larg Trouts" (p. 184). The calligraphic section has only a few attestations, including Lady Denbigh (p. 20), the Countess of Westmoreland (p. 100), and Lady Burton (p. 105). On page 186 the hand changes and recipes are written in three different hands with several recipes at the end being inverted. Attributions in this section are more common, including Mrs. Jones (p. 186), Sir T. Willoughby's cook (p. 186), Lady Burton (p. 191), Lady Childe (p. 196), Aunt Palmer's cook, (p. 196), Lady Denbigh (p. 197), cousin Rawstrone (p. 199), Mr. Chalinor (p. 214), and others.
