Folger-specific note
First leaf, blank, lacking; leaves a2, &7 and &8 damaged with loss of text; edges cropped, affecting many manuscript notes. Inhabited initials on leaves a2r, a5v, and a6r drawn in sepia and lightly colored. Early manuscript notes in brown ink, in several hands, mostly in Latin, a few in English (translation of words of text); interlineary gloss and marginal commentary provided by hand in parts of the book; notes in shorthand on leaves n3 and n4. Several early autographs on verso of last leaf and in lower margin of leaf m4v, reading: "Thomas Johnson [...?]"; later autograph on leaf n1v "Si: Shipman"; note of ownership on paper fragment from previous binding (now pasted on front pastedown), defaced, illegible with date "August 25th 1822"; another inscription on same fragment reads "Beason[?] Caius College Cambridge". Previously in a 3/4 leather binding with marbled paper sides; rebound in 1979 in brown morocco.
