Folger-specific note
Folger copy: edges trimmed, affecting only the earliest manuscript notes (previous to binding). Extensive early manuscript notes most of them in 2 hands in brown and red inks, in text and commentary, throughout the book, with underlining, brackets, and manicules; corrections in both text and commentary; manuscript paragraphs with titles "Vita Plauti" and "Amphitriõis Argumẽtũ" in the earliest hand on leaf 2A6v, and "M. Plauti Vita" with several paragraphs of "Argumentum" in the later hand on back flyleaves. Top margin of leaf 2A2 (bearing inscription?), cut out and repaired; inscription with date(?) "i731", defaced, illegible; small bookstamp with initials "I.G.F.I.L." and unidentified coat of arms on red wax, on back pastedown, and on front pastedown (defaced). In a contemporary Leipzig pigskin binding blind tooled (Cf. Schwenke-Schunke Rautengerank 35, Ranke 181 "Leipzig Buchführer, Kyriss 102/103"), with 2 clasps, unusually catching on back cover; unusual headbands, straps and bevelling of boards; manuscript fragments used as spine reinforcement; author's name written on fore-edge, reading from front to back cover. Purchased in 1959.
