Folger-specific note
Promptbook for 1773 Drury Lane production (Langhans, Shattuck). Annotations by William Hopkins (Langhans, Shattuck) and possibly his assistant, John Brownsmith (Langhans). Given by Charles Roeder to Sir Henry Irving (Shattuck). Roeder's letter "asserts that the book served Garrick. Garrick did not play Macbeth as late as 1773, but the book doubtless reflects his earlier practice" (Shattuck). Roeder's letter tipped in. Bookplate of Irving.
