Purchase made possible by The Eric and Mary Weinmann Acquisitions Fund. From dealer's description: "MANUSCRIPT INVENTORY. SAUNDERS, Stephen. A True and Perfect Inventorie of All and Singular the Goods and Chattells of Stephen Sunders of Manston in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Yeoman. 65 lines ms. on a single vellum sheet; some fading of ink but a good legible document. 57 x 15cm. An inventory listing the goods and chattels of a Thanet yeoman, dated 21 March 1666. It records the contents of the hall, buttery, chamber, loft, stable, barn, etc. and thus gives a picture of the household and husbandry effects of a small farmer of the mid-late seventeenth century. Kitchen items are listed, furniture, beds and linen, rugs, pewter etc. This list compiled in the Year of the Great Fire of London is revealing of just how few luxuries a yeoman farmer owned. Rooms include: 'In the Hall'; 'Buttery; 'Loft'; 'stable'; 'Chamber'; 'barn'. Items include: 'two bebsteddes two feather bedds to them one rugg one cowlett two blanketts foure bolsters and curtaines'; 'for all the wheat and barly'; 'for fine paire of sheets for six napkins two table Cloths'; etc."|Ordered from Jarndyce, D9352, 2019-10-02, E-LIST 3 Books Pamphlets 1641-1817, item 17.
