From dealer's description: Some light browning, smudge to lower lefthand corner, seven short tears to lefthand margin where previously bound, not affecting text.ohn Reilly Newcombe was very well regarded in his time for his management of the Theatre Royal, which was viewed as ‘one of the most conveniently arranged, most chaste and elegant, and certainly one of the best conducted in the provinces’ (A History of Plymouth, p. 592). In 1856, the Freemasons of Plymouth hosted a testimonial benefit in his name, ‘in consequence of the kindness he recently evinced towards Mdlle. Julie, who, it may be remembered, lost her life from her dress catching fire during one of her performances at the theatre’ (The Musical World).
