Folger-specific note
Dealer's description: "The production, 1911/12, was the collaboration of Konstantin Stanislavsky and Edward Gordon Craig. The two had been introduced by Isadora Duncan, in 1908; Stanislavsky soon invited Craig to Moscow. 'This was the first step towards one of the most famous and passionately discussed productions in the history of the modern stage. Subsequent developments . led to a meeting between two of the men of the theatre who have had the strongest influence on present-day stage art, and set two completely different attitudes in confrontation. The experience was of decisive importance .' (Bablet, p. 134). The portraits were taken by the famous Moscow photographer, Karl Fisher (1859-1923)."
