Dealer's description: "Year: 1875. Publisher: N/A. Place: Stratford upon Avon. A Stratford memento from the late nineteenth century in the form of a three inch oak stamp with the initials (mirrored) in the base of the stamp: 'J.C.' The provenance of the item is strong having formed part of the collection of the Stratford Armouries Museum whose Shakespeare collection was deacquisitioned in 2015 and sold at auction. Stratford upon Avon has been a site of pilgrimage since the late eighteenth century and Victorian trinkets of this kind were the response to consumer demand."
Initials are carved in reverse on the plate of the stamp.
