Summary
Sending a payment of $1397.65 to Sedgwick, being the balance of Fanny Kemble's accounts on the date of the letter. Kemble, Mrs. Butler, was touring America giving very popular Shakespeare readings to make ends meet after she'd left her husband, Pierce Butler. This letter was written just after Pierce Butler had begun divorce proceedings. The money Kemble earned on this tour was being shielded from her husband by Sedgwick and his son-in-law Minot, as documented here.
