This is a PRELIMINARY RECORD. It may contain incorrect information. Please email catalog@folger.edu for assistance.
One leaf, address on verso, and remains of a seal (with coronet at head of arms).
From dealer's description: An intriguing list of fines levied upon men and women in England by a local magistrate or magnate, apparently dating from the later 16th century. Among those fined are: Thomas Wetherell, George Winteringham, John Nickell and Olyver Griscroft[?], all 'for not selinge Ale Accordin to the statude' (they were all fined 8d) ; 'Our constabels for not hauin our stockes in repaer' (fined 20d) ; Thomas Barran, John Herisson and George Tenisson 'for an assaiell uppon Edward Adam' (each fined 20d). On the verso of this sheet there are also orders for 'Olyv Griscroft' and 'wid dow samson', ordering them to repair chimneys before Christmas, apparently upon pain of being fined 10d. The sheet is addressed to 'my very louing ffriend William Threlfolde', who was presumably a magistrate of some sort. He may possibly be identified with the man of this name, father of Alice Threlfold, baptised at St Swithin, Worcester, in 1552, but this is a slender thread on which to hang a location and a date.
