Summary
Beneath the title is the following typed note by Thompson: 'This Title is from the Promus (1595) which was a private note-book belonging to Bacon but unknown and inaccessible to the public for more than two hundred years after it was written.' Title-leaf frollowed by leaf carrying a long quotation from Shakespeare's 'Tempest', followed by six-page 'Foreword' by Thompson, who not only claims that Bacon is responsible for one of the poems of 'Ben Jonsen' [sic], but also that 'Lord Bacon is the author of "A Cat May Look Upon a King" and that he died in 1679, the year the Rosicrucians published a work entitled "Bacon's Remains" and at the advanced age of one hundred and eighteen years, and that it is his hand which penned while in exile, this satire upon all the Kings who had sat upon the English throne.' The transcription of the 1820 text covers 21 pages, including one page of introduction, at the foot of which: '(A third edition should be issued so as to bring the Kings down to George V. - C. H. T. - 1915).'
