Summary
Costume designs by Percy Anderson for Antony and Cleopatra, including designs for Cleopatra (no. 1, 6, 20-22), Antony (no. 2, 5, 10), and their retinue. Most drawings include names of specific people in roles: Cleopatra - Lady Alington (no. 1); Antony - Oscar Asche (no. 2, 10) and Captain Fitzclarence (no. 5); Soothsayer: A. Fullerton Esqr. (no. 3); Menecrates: Morris Stern (no. 8); dancers: Zara Lander (no. 4) and Miss Byrtle (no. 7); a clown: Mr. Anson (no. 12); slaves: Mr. MacAlaster (no. 13), Norman Harle (no. 15), Mr. Hobbs (no. 16); John Flanagan as a noble (no. 18); and Mr. Wiltshire "in Cleopatra's Retinue" (no. 19). Most designs likely relate to Oscar Asche's lavish production during his 1912-1913 Australian tour, including two illustrations of Antony as Bacchus and Cleopatra as one of his consorts (no. 11, 23); other designs appear to be for costume balls ca. 1910-1920, namely Lady Alington as Cleopatra (no. 1) and Captain Fitzclarence as Marc Antony (no. 5).
