Scope and content
Annotations and notes in contemporary or near-contemporary hands including Richard Strode's. Many are copies of documents relating to prisoners kept during the Commonwealth and Protectorate, particularly concerning Strode, including a copy of Strode's petition to Oliver Cromwell for his release from the Chancery Prison, a copy of his petition to the Court of Common Pleas, notes on the Chancery Court. Also many Biblical references and other material.

66 leaves (some blank) interleaved with 39 leaves of Culpeper (sig. [E5] missing) and 12 leaves of A new-years-gift.
Ephemeris for the year 1652 by Nicholas Culpeper (Wing A1522) and A new-years-gift, 1651 [i.e. 1650] : being the yeare of liberty, as in Levit. 25. 13. (no Wing #). Cataloged separately.
Note dated 1744, that the volume was bought by William Bennett from a barber in Evershot for 2 shillings, 6 pence, and that "This Book I belive to be of the hand wrighting of Sr Richard Strode of Nunham in Devon . . ." (pasted on leaf after sig. A3 of Culpeper), a supposition born out by what appears to be a direct transcript from the original address leaf of Strode's petition (copied on the verso of leaf iv).
