Scope and content
Writing tables, with manuscript notes, originally owned by Alicia Gardiner and then by her son William Gardiner, recording family births, deaths, marriages dating from 1669 to 1779. Also includes epitaphs, verse, and note on Queen Anne's death. Note in ink: "Alicia Gardiner wrote with a Pen, made of an Eagle's Quill. Sunday the 9th August 1724."
Note
Coated leaves (to facilitate erasure and reuse) are interleaved with regular paper.
Notes are made by stylus and pen and ink.

Historical background
Alicia Gardiner was married to Sir Brocas Gardiner of Roche Court.
Binding information
Bound in finely worked silver filigree in the pattern of a Jesse tree, with silver stylus inserted through clasps to hold the volume closed; gathered leaves held together with green ribbon tied through three holes on spine; pink silk attached to pastedowns and endleaves.
