Scope and content
Chiefly verse with a few prose pieces, mainly epistles, all, with a few exceptions, belonging to 18th century. Many of the poems are epigrams, epitaphs, and satires. On p. 205 is a proposed inscription for the scroll of the Shakespeare monument in Westminster Abbey (which long stood empty, until, in 1741, the present lines from The tempest were added).
