Written from Barford, Warwickshire, Worcester and elsewhere. Contains 32 letters to Samuel, most of them before their marriage (2-33), and 1 letter to her cousin and Samuel's brother Henry Dugard, September, 1666 (1). Also includes an autograph note signed by her son Thomas Dugard, August 11, 1698 (34); the signed will of her daughter Lydia Cotton, February 26, 1704/05 (35); and two notes on the descent of these letters in the family (36-37).
Historical background
Lydia Dugard lived mostly with her cousins' family at Barford and in 1672 married her cousin Samuel Dugard, fellow of Trinity College, Oxford, and later rector of Forton, Staffordshire. Samuel wrote of their union in The marraiges of cousin Germans.
