All leaves are trimmed and inlaid. Manuscript shelf-mark on armorial bookplate. Printed shelf-label ('T' '3'). Extra-illustrated with three engravings pasted on the front and back fly-leaves: 'New Place, from a drawing in the margin of an ancient survey made by order of Sir George Carew (afterwards Baron Carew of Clopton, and Earl of Totness) ...' (signed I. Jordan del. A. Burrell sc.); Droeshout engraving of Shakespeare (4th state, Hind); 1723 engraving of the Shakespeare memorial by George Vertue, taken from a copy of Alexander Pope's edition of Shakespeare (volume 1, facing page xxxi). Trimmed, affecting headlines and text, some of which are supplied in manuscript ink. Provenance: inscribed on first front free endpaper: "G.C. jr. [i.e. George Carew? see engraving pasted on front fly-leaf] given to him by the Honble John Byng 1791"; armorial bookplate of Dogmersfield Library (i.e. Sir Henry Mildmay copy) (motto "allah ta hara")
