cs427. Contemporary tan-colored sheepskin (?) binding, blind-tooled, with an arabesque design on the front cover, arms (unidentified) and motto ("honi soit qui mal y pense") on the back cover, and overlapping fore-edges. The ten chalked leaves survive as bound, some with contemporary manuscript notes, some missing patches of the coating; on the first two leaves are manuscript recipes, i.e. cures for horses (from glanders, mange, and sores from spurring). Contemporary manuscript notes on the front fly-leaf relating to fairs (and their dates) at Brailes ("Braille"), Shipston ("Shipson"), Hook Norton ("Hockenorton"), and Chipping Norton ("Chipingnorton"). A1,2 and D7,8 foxed and mutilated, affecting title and text. Provenance: autograph on the 4th table of William Gosport (?); 1925 Folger purchase from P.M. Barnard, England, cat.149, lot 258
