Authorship of the Eik⁻on basilik⁻e was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king.
Title page printed in red and black with a title page border of type ornaments printed in black along the sides and red in the corners.
"A perfect copie of prayers, used by His Majestie in the time of his sufferings" has a separate title page after p. 247.
"Explanation of the frontispice", in letterpress on verso of pi1, begins: "Ponderibus genus", and is bound before the frontispiece engraving in complete copies.
