Originally edited by Henry Oldenburg, later by N. Grew, R. Plot, W. Musgrave, R. Waller, Sir H. Sloane, E. Halley, and C. Mortimer. Since March 1752 publication has been supervised by a committee of the Royal Society.
Some imprints include year of publication in roman or arabic.
Imprints vary; on some early issues printer's initials change to "T.R."; by 1668 James Allestry's name disappears; 1683-1685 the place of printing is given as Oxford; later imprint names include: Moses Pitt, Sam. Smith, Hen. Clements, Benj. Walford, J. Streater, Wm. Innys, D. Brown, T. Woodward, Lockyer Davis, C. Reymers, Peter Elmsley.
Individual issues or 'transactions' within the journal are numbered and dated, with caption titles, contents notes, and dated colophons.
