Numbering peculiarities

No genuine issues published between 30 Jan. and 27 Feb. 1650 (no. 42-43); the numbers that appear during this time are counterfeit issues. Cf. Frank.
Duplicate numbering, with different text, for the same dates of issue indicates counterfeits of this title. Cf. Nelson and Seccombe; Frank.
Numeration begins anew following Numb. 28; dates are consecutive.

Note
Title from caption.
Place of publication supplied by cataloguer; date from Nelson and Seccombe.
Counterfeit issues of this newsbook appeared at random during its entire run.
Most regular issues begin with a title page poem in rhymed quatrains, signed with Nedham's motto: "Nemo me impune lacessit," and ended with a rhymed couplet. The later counterfeits also used Nedham's motto, but mostlacked the end couplet and their title page poems were either not in quatrains or failed to scan.
One of the "three 'grand' Royalist weeklies of 1647," begun by John Cleveland and Samuel Sheppard, but chiefly written by Marchamont Nedham during 1648 and part of 1649. Cf. Frank; Williams.
