Folger-specific note
Imperfect: extensive paper repairs, with some affecting text. Accompanied by two 16th century woodblocks by Wolfgang Meyerpeck used in folio editions of Mattioli's herbal. Woodblock no. 1 was used in the present edition to print the illustraton on leaf CXXXVI (Lactuca florescens). In contemporary calf over wooden boards; gilt rolled border (mostly worn away); series of fillets forming a central panel with gilt angled tools on corners; gold-stamped centerpiece (worn); rebacked; gauffered edges; woodcuts hand colored. Inscription: Ex Bibliotheca Monasterij Sanctae Coronae Ordinis Cisterciensis cathalogo inscriptus a[nno] 1683. Stamp: Carl Firbas. Inscription (crossed out): Ex libris Frts. Martini. S.
